Project Name: Get Senior Active (GSA)

Summary: Get Senior Active is a transnational initiative under the Erasmus+ Sport programme aimed at improving the health, wellbeing, and social integration of older adults (60+) across Spain, Italy, and Romania. Inspired by the success of the "Activa’t" programme during the pandemic, GSA develops inclusive training routines, audiovisual content, and local activities to combat physical inactivity, loneliness, and social isolation among seniors living in retirement homes or alone. The project promotes healthy lifestyles and builds sustainable networks for future expansion.

Main Objectives:

  • Recover physical activity habits among older adults
  • Enhance social relationships through sport-based engagement
  • Create a scientifically grounded training programme for senior care institutions and sports clubs
  • Produce audiovisual tools for outreach and remote delivery
  • Implement local events and international seminars to disseminate content and create dialogue
  • Build a European network of entities working on senior wellness through sport
  • Strengthen the psychological wellbeing of elderly participants

Key Activities:

  • Development of 30 structured training sessions and a physical activity guide for entities
  • Implementation of local activities in retirement homes and clubs in 3 countries
  • Creation of audiovisual training content and promotional materials
  • Organization of 3 international seminars and 3 local events (one per country)
  • Continuous monitoring through KPIs and feedback from participants
  • Dissemination through TV, social media, WhatsApp, and online platforms
  • Strategic partnerships with retirement homes, local governments, and sports organizations

  • CEBC (Consell Esportiu Baix Camp, Spain) – Coordinator and programme lead
  • UISP Comitato Territoriale Ciriè Settimo Chivasso (Italy) – Partner and local implementer
  • Club Reus Deportiu (Spain) – Local partner and event organizer
  • AJSPT Suceava (Romania) – Partner and trainer implementer

Implementation Period:

  • 20 months
  • Phases: Preparation (months 1–8), Implementation (months 9–16), Analysis (months 17–20), Expansion planning

Funding & Support:

  • Erasmus+ Programme: Small-scale cooperation partnerships in sport (ERASMUS-SPORT-2022-SSCP)
  • Supported by EU and local institutions in Spain, Italy, and Romania
  • Includes production of public reports, audiovisual guides, and feedback studies

Legacy & Expansion: GSA is designed to be scalable at both the regional and European levels. Post-project expansion plans include developing similar programmes in neighboring regions, adding more countries, increasing the number of events and sessions, and building a lasting European ecosystem for senior health through sport.
