IRISES Project

Project Name: IRISES – International Roma Integration through Stakeholders Exchange of Successful Practices

Summary: IRISES is a two-year European initiative co-funded by the Fundamental Rights & Citizenship Programme of the European Union. The project aims to protect the rights of disadvantaged children—both Roma and non-Roma—living in residential care or foster institutions. Through the training of care professionals and the exchange of good practices across Europe, IRISES fosters inclusive educational and recreational experiences that support children's autonomy and social integration.

Main Objectives:

  • Promote the protection of rights of disadvantaged Roma and non-Roma children
  • Improve skills and awareness among residential care professionals
  • Facilitate the exchange of successful practices in child rights protection and inclusive activities
  • Reduce prejudice and discrimination through sport, art, and intercultural engagement
  • Empower children to build a fair and autonomous future within society

Target Groups:

  • More than 700 children aged 10–18 living in residential care or institutional settings
  • At least 70 professionals working in children’s care services (educators, social workers, facilitators)
  • Indirect beneficiaries: parents, families, civil society, local governments, and the general public

Key Activities:

  • Training sessions focused on European citizenship, children’s rights, anti-discrimination and tolerance
  • Inclusive workshops and recreational activities using sport, art, and games
  • Intercultural meetings between children and facilitators from different countries
  • Media outreach campaigns to raise awareness among the wider population
  • Final events and dissemination actions involving multiple partners and stakeholders

Legacy & Impact: IRISES aims to improve the daily experiences and long-term outcomes of children in institutional care by strengthening the skills of those who work with them. By involving the community and promoting mutual understanding, the project creates meaningful pathways toward inclusion, respect, and equal opportunities.
