Cenni storici

Takeda Sokaku Secondo la tradizione, l'origine del Daito Ryu può essere fatta risalire a circa 900 anni fa, ad opera di Shinra Saburo Minamoto no Yoshimitsu (1045-1127).

Suo pronipote, Nobuyoshi, si trasferÏ nel villaggio di Takeda in Kitakoma, contea nella provincia di Kai, adottando, quindi, il nome di famiglia Takeda, la cui discendenza vede, tra i suoi esponenti di spicco, Takeda Shingen (1521-1573), considerato uno dei più grandi generali militari del periodo medievale giapponese.

Durante tutto questo periodo l'arte del Daito Ryu ha continuato ad essere trasmessa all'interno della famiglia di generazione in generazione, fino a giungere a Sokaku Takeda (1859-1943), che iniziò a divulgarlo in tutto il Giappone. Uno dei suoi più famosi allievi fu il Maestro Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969), fondatore dell'Aikido.

L'Aikido e il Daito-Ryu

Takeda ha avuto un effetto importante sull'arte di Ueshiba, e chiaramente le origini dell'Aikido si ritrovano nel Daito Ryu. I due si incontrarono per la prima volta nel 1915 nella città di Engaru in Hokkaido. Ueshiba rimase stupito dall'abilità marziale di Takeda e divenne immediatamente un suo allievo. Studiò il Daito Ryu assiduamente per circa 5 anni, e fu così entusiasta che invitò Takeda a trasferirsi al villaggio di Shirataki dove viveva a quel tempo insieme a un gruppo di coloni dalla città di Tanabe nella prefettura di Wakayama. Takeda accettò e iniziò ad insegnare il Daito Ryu nella casa di Ueshiba. Alla fine del 1919, Ueshiba improvvisamente partì da Shirataki dopo aver ricevuto la notizia che suo padre si era ammalato, e lasciò la sua casa con tutti i suoi arredi a Takeda.

I due si ritrovarono nel 1922, quando Takeda trascorse circa sei mesi insieme a tutta la sua famiglia a casa di Ueshiba ad Ayabe. In quel periodo Ueshiba si era unito ad una comunità di credenti nella religione Omoto Kyo e, con l'incoraggiamento del fondatore della religione Onisaburo Deguchi, aveva istituito un dojo nella sua casa dove insegnava Daito Ryu. Al termine del suo soggiorno a Ayabe, Takeda assegnò a Ueshiba il certificato di Kyoju Dairi (Istruttore Rappresentante). Successivamente, Ueshiba ricevette anche il certificato di Kaishaku Sodensho, all'epoca il più alto riconoscimento di Daito Ryu. Nel complesso, documenti storici mostrano che Ueshiba praticò Daito Ryu per quasi una ventina di anni.
