UISP Committee Ciriè Settimo Chivasso is partner of Memtrain

On the 24th of October UISP has flown to Prague to partecipate to the first meeting of Memtrain, a new international project focused on the mental and physical health of older adults, especially the 55+. The association leader of the project is Pràvě ted', wich hosted the initial meeting and will coordinate and evaluate the project. A lot of partners, however, will contribute: UHM de Elche, a spanish university, Gdynia Sports Centre from Poland, Cestou zdravi, Czech Republic, Ljudska univerza rogaŝka Slatina, Slovenia, Athletics Ireland and UISP Settimo Ciriè Chivasso. Memtrain is born from several studies proving the link between cognitive decline and institutionalization, hospitalization, chronic health condition that shows the need of an effort to find ways to improve health and well-being of this specifical age group. The main aim of the project is to share knowledge and expertise of various professionals, in order to create a training manual that will be used to promote and healthy aging. A brand new way to focus on the issue: to combine physical activity with brain activity, organizing a ten week programme led by a trainer and a short online course that can be completed from home. The treatment will be different for people in the age between 55-70 and for the ones older than 70, so the trainers will be “trained” to be prepared for both situations. Focusing on us, UISP Comitato Ciriè Settimo Chivasso will improve his already specific for older adult course, AFA (Attività fisica adattata), in order to make it more aerobic for the sake of research of new datas.
The project is structured in four main events where the partners will meet: the initial meeting that has already taken place in Prague, a second meeting in Gdynia (expected in July/August 2017) after the first draft of the manual in completed, the third meeting in December 2017 after the completion of the pilot-testing of the manual, and the final meeting again in Prague in September 2018, to discuss the results of the project and his further dissemination, with the partecipation of five seniors.
