REAL EUROPEAN SPORT MODEL

SUMMARY:

The project "Real European Sport Model" intends to enhance governance in Europe's sports sector by generating robust evidence on organisational and financial diversity, by training national organisations, advocating at national and EU levels for evidence-based policies, and fostering a vibrant and sustainable sport and physical activity sector for increased citizen engagement.
Specifically, the project will focus on two significant yet under-reported aspects about sport in Europe

  1. Diversity of organizational structures providing sport and physical activity offers across Europe
  2. Financial flows of sport participation in Europe

The aim is to ensure evidence-based governance of sport, better policy decisions and priorities, and a shared conception of sport in Europe, allowing for more nuanced debate of the future of sport and physical activity across the continent.

 

OBJECTIVES:

  • Strengthen knowledge on organisational and financial realities in European sports  
  • Develop compelling evidence-based advocacy tools  
  • Build capacities in national sport organisations, beginning with partner countries
  • Strengthen sport policy development on European and national/local levels through targeted advocacy actions  

ACTION:

  • Analyse the European Sport Model debate's current status.
  • Map sports and physical activity organisational structures across Europe.
  • Describe financial flows of sport participation organisations in Europe.
  • Formulate key advocacy messages adaptable at European and national levels
  • Create media products (4 videos, 4 infographics, 4 engagement props, 12 long-form content) supporting advocacy messages.
  • Develop a European Sport Model advocacy toolkit and self-assessment tool.
  • Provide advocacy training and peer learning opportunities for national partners.
  • Promote project resources and conduct workshops at MOVE Congress 2025 and 2027, and Play the Game 2026.
  • Build coalitions on EU and national levels.
  • Implement 4+ EU advocacy interventions and 16+ national/local interventions.

 

UISP’S TASKS

  • Coordination of the WP5 - Advocacy
  • Organizing of a partner meeting in Italy
  • Organizing the closing meeting in Rome
  • Participation in all international in-person and online meetings; Move Congress 2025 and 2027; Play the Game Conference
  • Recruiting of 2 people from ethnic minority backgrounds from local community who will become the Changemakers
  • Contribution in analysing “state of play” in the debate on the European Sport Model and mapping the organisation in Italy
  • Piloting
  • Contribution in developing the European Sport Model advocacy toolkit and self-assessment tool
