Sahrawi - Inclusive sport for young refugees

 

 

Duration: 18 months: December 2024 – May 2026

Location: Saharawi RepublicRefugees camps in Tindouf (Algeria).

SUMMARY:

The project builds on existing sports education programmes in refugee camps to promote the integration and empowerment of young people. School sports programmes will be strengthened through training activities for physical education teachers. A capacity-building programme will be implemented at the end of the first training mission, which will also serve as a feasibility mission for future projects.

 

OBJECTIVES:

  • Ensuring healthy lives and well-being for marginalised young people
  • Promoting inclusive, equitable and high-quality education for young refugees, with the aim of improving class participation and reducing early school leaving
  • Achieving gender equality by promoting the self-determination of Sahrawi women and girls

 

PROJECT ACTIONS AND UISP ROLE:    

  • Training of sports teachers from schools of different types and levels
  • Capacity Building Programme, in which trained teachers become multipliers in their own territories
  • Supply of sports equipment and organisation of a final sports festival
  • Communication and networking campaign

As part of the project, Uisp provides experts and trainers to carry out training during the first mission and organise the final sports festival.

 

EXPECTED RESULTS:

  • Direct training of 25 sports teachers and subsequent increase to 100 thanks to Capacity Building
  • Creation of a manual for teachers
  • Organisation of a final party
  • Preparation of a Mission report on needs and relationships developed for future projects
