In particular, the data relating to the pre-pandemic situation, i.e. prior to 2020, are investigated, highlighting the changes connected to the spread of Covid-19 and the restrictions to combat its spread.

OBJECTIVES:

To produce research on the social and health costs of sedentary lifestyle in Italy

PROJECT ACTIONS:

The research project, lasting 10 months, is organized as follows:

  • Phase 1 – Project Start-up: Launch of activities, preparation of survey tools
  • Phase 2 – Focus Groups/Analysis of data from official statistical sources
  • Phase 3 – Distribution/administration of questionnaires and data collection
  • Phase 4 – Data analysis
  • Phase 5 – Writing of the research
  • Phase 6 – Presentation and promotion of research results
  • Phase 7 – Closure and reporting

The methodology first involves the construction of an information database on which to base the analysis relating to the social impact and economic impact.

The indicators that constitute the information base refer to six thematic areas:

  1. the structure and dynamics of the population;
  2. the socio-demographic characteristics of the population;
  3. income and consumption levels;
  4. the spread of structures and facilities for sports practice;
  5. the lifestyles of the population and the use of time;
  6. the health status of the population.

In particular, the aim is to investigate the data relating to the pre-pandemic situation, i.e. prior to 2020, highlighting the changes connected to the spread of Covid-19 and the restrictions to combat its spread.

Furthermore, a questionnaire is planned to investigate the physical activity and complementarity habits of a representative sample of the population of Southern Italy. The questionnaire is constructed with the CAWI (Computer Assisted Web Interview) methodology and distributed mainly by Uisp through its territorial and regional Committees and through the Grassroots Sports Associations that take part in the project on objective 1 "Resumption of activity and physical exercise following the pandemic", also through related web and social channels according to an "avalanche" strategy that also allows non-members to be reached for greater responsiveness of the sample.

The target population group from which the analysis sample is to be identified - stratified by age and other socio-demographic characteristics (gender, disability; migrant status) - is composed of 70.350 people from all Italian regions and provinces, with a broad representation of Southern Italy, from which approximately 40% of the target indicated above comes.

Characteristics of the selected sample are the 40% representation of Southern Italy as an area of origin and the presence of 30% women.
