SUMMARY:

The main goal of IceHearts Europe is to integrate mental health into grassroots sports programs, with the aim of improving the well-being of vulnerable children. The goal of IceHearts Europe is to implement a methodology that can be adopted by different countries, taking a cue from the Finnish IceHearts model, which uses team sports as a tool to engage children in social work. 

 

OBJECTIVES:

  • Creating a model and tools for the European implementation of Icehearts
  • Building the capacity of partner organizations and stakeholders to implement Icehearts
  • Implementing pilot actions in 5 European countries
  • Increasing European awareness of Icehearts and involve more countries and organizations.

 

 PROJECT ACTION:

  • Review of the European concept of Icehearts.
  • Implementation of national stakeholder and partner building workshops
  • Study visits to the Finnish Icehearts headquarters and local implementation sites
  • Situation analysis and needs assessment in each pilot country
  • Training of Icehearts mentors and recruitment of young participants
  • Pilot activities (social support, sports activities, school care, summer camps, etc.)

 

UISP ROLE AND TASKS

  • Contributing to the refinement of the European concept of Icehearts
  • Organizing a national stakeholder and partner building workshop
  • Participation in all international in-person and online meetings and study visit to Finland
  • Contribution to situation analysis and needs assessment in Italy
  • National training of Icehearts mentors and recruitment of youth participants
  • Pilot activities (social support, sports activities, school assistance, summer camps, etc.) in 10 different realities in Italy, involving 20 mentors and 400 young people

 

EXPECTED RESULTS:

  • European implementation manual of Icehearts
  • Implementation of online learning course
  • Production and translation of Icehearts online and offline marketing and campaign materials, website, articles and blog posts
  • Organization of the first European Icehearts conference, creation of the Icehearts Next Adopters group
  • Implementation of synchronous online learning course for 80 new stakeholders, dedicated capacity building workshops in 7 other countries
